Tyler Stevens Battles Tough Holiday Weekend

What seemed like a picture-perfect outing in the opener of the 2020 Red River Modified Tour quickly turned into a nightmare on Wednesday night for Tyler Stevens. With 48 entries on hand at Southern Oklahoma Speedway (Ardmore, Oklahoma), the Arkansas racer dominated the night’s $1,000-to-win finale to pick up the apparent win. Unfortunately, he was disqualified in post-race inspection.

“We had some issues come up in post race tech that we had no idea about. Apparently our lower control arm was 1/4” too far forward,” Tyler Stevens said. “Guess I should of checked it when I put the car together. With everything being aftermarket these days could of just been the way the lower was stamped or possibly the way the plate was welded on the frame. But that will take us out of contention for the points fund so we will be heading back to enjoy 4th of July at home.

“Will be able to fix the car in 30 minutes or so no major deal. The 1/4” we was off didn’t make the difference in the performance we put on tonight proud of our team. We will hold our head high and move on to the next one.”

The “next one” for Tyler Stevens came on Saturday night as he trekked north to Central Missouri Speedway (Warrensburg, Missouri) for the annual Tom Wilson Memorial. The $3,000-to-win USRA Modified event drew a field of 29 entries. On a very rough surface Tyler was up to the fourth spot in his heat race before hitting a hole that flattened the right front and folded his nose under.

Instead of starting at the back of a B-Main and risking more damage to his car he made the decision to scratch from the remainder of the event.
